Bahamas Celebration Fire, Celebration Cruise Lines near Freeport, Bahamas – Monday, December 12, 2011 around 0920 hours Celebration Cruise Lines, Bahamas Celebration caught fire in the engine room.  About four miles off Freeport, Bahamas, when Bahamas Celebration was disabled with approximately 600 passengers aboard.

Bahamas Celebration had to be towed back to the Port Of Freeport, where she stayed overnight before sailing back to West Palm Beach, Florida, the cruise ship’s home port.

Monday, December 19 the cruise line announced, “We refunded those who wanted the refunds,” said Whan. “However, let me point out that those who choose not to refund their tickets, but chose to wait until the ship got back into service, not only are their existing tickets good for when they travel (at no cost for changes), but we’re offering a free ticket to those people for future travel on the Celebration, the only cost would be for the taxes and the gratuities. That’s for those who opted not to get a refund.”

Cruise line President Charles Kinnear said the fire damaged wiring and knocked out the ship’s air conditioning, making the cabins a little toasty for some
