Carnival Imagination Fire, Carnival Cruise Line Fire near Cozumel, Mexico – On July 13, 2010, Carnival Cruise Lines’ Carnival Imagination had a fire in the Elevator Machinery Room located on sport deck.
Carnival Imagination was sailing between Key West, Florida and Cozumel, Mexico when the electrical fire broke out.
The fire was contained to the lift compartments machinery space 16-17-18 and was extinguished using 10 CO2 portable extinguishers.
The origin of the fire was the Harmonic Filter of elevator #17.
The result of the fire was damage to the elevator control equipment including all wires, fire detection, and Satellite TV cables. Three elevators were disabled and were left inoperable, #16, 17 and 18. Two were passenger elevators and one was a crew elevator.
