Royal Princess Fire, Princess Cruises Fire in Port Said, Egypt – Thursday June 18, 2009 fire broke out in the engine room aboard Princess Cruises’ Royal Princess while the cruise ship was near Port Said, Egypt. Royal Princess was towed back to Port Said.

Royal Princess was on a 12-day Holy Land cruise from Civitavecchia, Italy to Athens, Greece with 733 passengers and 393 crew members aboard when the fire broke out disabling two engines.

The next voyage was due to set sail on June 25. That cruise was canceled.

The Princess Cruises response was, “We will be providing the affected passengers on both voyages a full refund of their fare, plus a future cruise credit equal to 25% of the cruise fare paid for these sailings. We are currently securing flights home for all passengers currently on board Royal Princess, and they will be returning home over the weekend. Passengers’ homeward flights, transfers, and associated hotel accommodations will be at Princess’ expense.”

December 9, 2009, Royal Princess was to transfer to P&O Cruises. May 21, 2011 Royal Princess became MV Adonia.
